Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to investigate, design and implement a lanuguage and architecture for what we intend to call time-aware agents. Time-aware agents will be intelligent software components that can seamlessley shift between soft time-dependent interactions with their human owners and hard real-time interactions with other agents. We aim to create a complete top-to-bottom architecture for time-aware agents in the programming language APRIL, comprising real-time extensions to the compiler, interpreter and communications infrastructure, and programming constructs and macros for developing time-aware agents. By evaluation in an experimental case study, we aim to demonstrate proof of concept by implementing prototype time-aware agents that are capable of operating in two temporal dimensions.
