Summary on Grant Application Form
I propose to develop a new method of simulating the dynamics of the Bose field at finite temperatures. This will allow me to study the properties of Bose Einstein condensates in the presence of clouds of non condensed atoms, including such interesting problems such as the formation of structures such as vortices and the output of atom lasers. The proposed method combines the Gross Pitaevskii equation with quantum kinetic theory. The most important aspect of this is that the computed results will be able to be tested directly in experiments. This fellowship would allow me to build on on the work I have carried out during my doctorate and extend it into a major new project. The expertise and computational resources available at Oxford woud greatly assist this project, and I am confident I can make a significant contribution to the field.
