Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal addresses key problems related to the preservation of beam quality for the high power diode arrays which are expected to become an important laser source for industrial material processing. Correction micro-optics arrays will be designed and manufactured to reverse the optical deficiencies of the beams from individual diode laser elements caused by unavoidable micron scale mechanical errors in the array construction. An optical measurement procedure for quantising these errors and a method of generating a correction prescription will be developed. The necessary micro-optical correction plate will be manufactured using a novel configuration of direct-write, precision laser work-station.
