Summary on Grant Application Form
The adoption of new business processes based on Concurrent Engineering (CE) principles will provide a means of overcoming construction industry problems and improving the competitiveness of the industry. The full implementation of concurrent engineering requires the development of an integrated product and process model that offers the potential for improved collaborative working with all members of the project team working together in the exchange of both product and process data.Previous studies have focused on modelling either the product or the process, without adequate consideration of the implications of one on the other. The integration of product and process modelling developed in this research will help to overcome this problem by enabling construction project teams to collaborate on the basis of a shared project model.Within the construction sector there is currently no established process interchange language independent of a given application and robust enough to represent the necessary process information for any application. This research will assess the applicability to the construction sector of PSL, the Process Specification Language developed in the USA for the manufacturing industry and develop applications guidelines for the construction sector.
