Uncertainties in predicting multiphase flow properties often make assessment of improved oil recovery schemes problematic. We propose to develop pore-scale models anchored to available experimental data that predict relative permeability and capillary pressure. Variations in properties with wettability trends in the reservoir, for different rock types, and for different displacement paths in three-phase flow will be quantified. The network models will use a faithful representation of the rock structure at the pore-scale and will incorporate all the known displacement processes for two- and three-phase flow in mixed-wet systems. The model will be used to predict relative permeability and capillary pressure on the core-scale. These predictions will be validated against extensive multiphase data provided by collaborating companies.Relative permeabilities will be computed throughout the reservoir using the pore-scale model to account for variations in rock type, wettability and displacement sequence. A geostatistical approach to assigning multiphase flow properties will be pioneered, based on physically realistic pore-scale modelling. This will represent an enormous improvement over current approaches to reservoir description and simulation.
