Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed project is to tailor the photocatalytic activity of titania for two important chemical reactions:(i) selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx;(ii) direct partial oxidation of small hydrocarbons. This is to be achieved by combining thermal catalysts for these reactions with titania coatings. It is envisaged that the thermal catalyst will provide suitable active sites to catalyse the desired reaction, but that excitation for the catalysed reaction will be via absorption of photons as opposed to thermal energy, due to the presence of photoactive titania. The project will be concerned with the preparation, materials characterisation and catalytic testing of a novel series of photocatalysts based upon this methodology.
