Summary on Grant Application Form
The Imperial NDT group currently comprises two permanent academic staff and 13 postdocs and RAlBs/PhD students. The current research portfolio has a value of 1.3M from a mix of sources. Two spin-out companies have recently been formed based on research undertaken in the group and this success has led to a loss of experienced research personnel. The platform grant will enable to group to retain its current key postdoctoral staff on longer term contracts which will give the group a firm base on which to expand its work on the application of guided and bulk wave ultrasound to tackle new problems related to the water, power generation, food and process industries. The platform grant will be used to fund a series of relatively short term feasibility studies together with longer term analytical and finite element modelling work that will underpin the diversification into new areas.
