Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the project is to produce, through in-depth multi-disciplinary research, the technologies required for more effective through-process tracking in the process manufacturing industries. Essential to the strategy is the provision of advanced, flexible methods of real-time process monitoring in dynamic manufacturing environments and the development of procedures which combine chemical and other process data to create a multivariate map of the whole process from product development to final manufacture. Novel chemometrics, advanced signal processing and dynamic process performance monitoring and control procedures will be devised and developed in parallel with advances in non-invasive microwave, Raman, NMR and acoustic measurement techniques. By linking remote process measurement data through an enhanced knowledge management system, intelligent tagging of materials and products will be achieved. Consequently, adaptive processing capabilities will become possible, resulting in greater precision and control in the management of product development and manufacturing with beneficial effects also in marketing.
