The programme represents a novel application of I.S. techniqeus in the characterisation of PFA systems. The programme of work will be developed in two phases:Phase I will entail the development of standard ACIS testing protocols and procedures. Phase II will comprise detailed ACIS characterisation studies on a wide range of ashes. The latter will be divided into two main experimental programmes:a) pozzolanicity studies using direct activation with CH to investigate the reactivity and reaction kinetics of different types of ash. Electrical response will be measured in terms of conductance and capacitance as a function of time and presented at a number of fixed frequencies within the range 1Hz-10MHz; andb) impedance studies on mortars and concretes with complex impedance data taken over the frequency range 1Hz-10MHZ using, typically, 100 spot frequencies within this rane. Tests will be undertaken on mortars and concretes with measurements obtained at discrete points in time from initial gauging, through setting and hardening up to up to 18months hydration.Running in parallel with experimental developments, analytical studies will seek to provide an understanding of the origins of electrical response in PFA systems.
