A three year programme is proposed. The overall aim of the project is to gain a fundamental understanding of the factors controlling the propensity of the rings of brickwork arches to delaminate and assess the efficiency of composite strips bonded to the arch soffit and radial pinning to rehabilitate arch load carrying capacity. A good proportion of the UK arch bridge stock of over 40000 bridges are multi-ring brickwork arch bridges, in spite of their susceptibility to delamination there are no data on the performance of such arches under cyclic loading nor for repair arches under cyclic loading. The proposed work complements and extends the current research programme at the University of Salford which is studying arches with steel strip strengthening.In parallel finite element modelling and modified mechanism modelling will be developed and a parametic study undertaken to inform the development of recommendations for assessing engineers.EngProg\
