The overall purpose of the proposed project is to investigate biometric modalities suitable for user authentication and access control in network-based interactions, to facilitate integration of multiple modalities for improved security, and to determine ways to manage the efficient exploitation of securi control in on-line applications using agent technology. The technology of intelligent agents will be explored to facilitate the on-line selection and combination of biometric modalities and the threshold of trust and confidentiality needed for controlled access. The project will establish an integrated solution to multimodal biometric information processing based on intelligent agents offering flexibili and reliability.The proposed solution is generic and not dependent on the use of any specific biometric modality, and offers the flexibility to incorporate new biometric components, as they become available. Although the techniques to be developed will be generic, the project will use a specific context for its developmer and evaluation. It is proposed that a healthcare scenario will be explored, where confidential information may need to be accessed from a variety of sources by healthcare professionals, the patient themselves and other authorized parties.
