Summary on Grant Application Form
The overall aim of the project is to investigate in a novel way the dynamic properties of deep sub-micron magnetic nanostructures. This will be achieved by constructing a scanning pick-up coil magnetometer which will be able to measure dynamic hysteresis loops of arrays of nanomagnets at frequencies up to 50GHz. The nanomagnets, having dimensions typically of 100nm x 100nm x 10nm will be fabricated using high resolution electron beam lithography. Properties such as coercivity, remanence, susceptibility and spin-wave damping will be determined. In tandem with experimental measurements modelling of the dynamics will be developed based on a micromagnetic simulation software package.
