Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will research novel integrated drives using direct converter technology from the viewpoints of electrical performance and integrated thermal design. The overall aim will be to demonstrate a feasible technology to extend the power range of integrated drives upward beyond 100kW. There are three key elements that require substantial research effort before a truly integrated motor drive can be built, these are:- power converter topologies suitable for harsh environments including high temperatures and vibration- thermal modelling and measurement to incorporate cooling of the power converter into motor casing- improvements in motor efficiency due to the removal of the direct on line starting requirement
