Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to develop a combinatorial approach to the identification and optimisation of quaternary ammonium salt asymmetric phase-transfer catalysts. This work will initially involve the development of reaction processes involving the alkylation of amino acid imines, that are compatible with the generation of catalyst libraries. We will then use these processes to develop effective strategies for the identification/optimisation of the phase-transfer catalysts.Once this initial phase of the work is complete we will seek to extend the range of alkylation substrates that can be incorporated into this methodology and then ultimately we will investigate application of this strategy to other types of reaction process (e.g. epoxidation).
