Summary on Grant Application Form
Coupled pseudostate methods have been highly successful in describing positron collisions with one-electron and two-electron targets. The strength of this approach lies in the fact that ionization channels can be represented and so we are able to construct a complete dynamical theory. This proposal plans to extend this technique to solve fundamental problems in positronium - atom scattering, positron scattering by the inert gases and to coincidence studies of positron impact ionization (ie, (e+, e+e-) processes). The programme is strongly geared to experimental activity in these areas. The work will require significant new theoretical developments and computer program construction as well as the use of the most up-to-date high performance computing resources.
