Summary on Grant Application Form
The problems of congestion and environmental impacts stemming from rising travel demand have heightened interest and participation in the ongoing transport debate. A succession of vision documents have been produced by senior professionals that seek to determine the prospects and opportunities for transport's future. This project stems from the conspicuous absence of explicit input from young professionals into such endeavours. Young professionals are the decision makers of tomorrow and represent a source of inspiration, innovation and fresh thinking to challenge existing mindsets. The project will operate a Network of young professionals and seeks ultimately to generate an integrated vision of transport for the 21st Century. This will be achieved by sequentially addressing eight transport themes. The focal point of each theme will be a workshop. Theme Reports will be produced that have been generated by young professional members of the Network and reviewed by other young and senior professionals. The Network will promote dialogue and interaction across the transport profession. The output from the project should ensure that the transport research community, of which many of the Network participants will be a part, is capable of producing research ventures that are innovative and visionary.
