Summary on Grant Application Form
This programme aims to sue an in-situ X-ray diffraction technique and interferometry to investigate the high field electromechanical response of two specific groups of relaxors in thin film form:Pb(mg.33Nb.67)03-PbTi03 (PMN-PT) and Pb(Zn33Nb.67)03-PbTi03 (PZN-PT).The project seeks to see if recent results showing electromechanical strains of up to 1.7% in single crystals of these relaxors can be reproduced in thin films. The thin film geometry is ideal because the extreme voltages needed in previous single crystal investigations will not be necessary.
