Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed programme examines the long-term behaviour of cement-treated soils by combining full-scale with laboratory-scale treatment and real-time with accelerated-time behaviour. The previous related project (Project A) would produce real-time behaviour at 6 years after treatment of the soil-mixed contaminated ground. In this project contaminated and uncontaminated site soils will be treated in the laboratory using manual and auger mixing. They will be used to carry out a laboratory investigation into accelerated time-related behaviour using elevated temperatures. The results will be compared with real-time behaviour produced in Project A and previous related work. This will enable the chemical and mechanical aspect of the time-related behaviour to be isolated. Following that, the uncontaminated site soils will be spiked with one heavy metal and one organic compound, both singly and combined, at different concentrations to examine the effects of isolated contaminants and their concentrations on the time-related performance of the treated soil
