Summary on Grant Application Form
Palladium and ruthenium catalysts are widely applied in organic synthesis. Together they catalyse an impressive range of useful C-H, C-C and C-heteroatom bond forming processes that display excellent cheomo-, regio- and stereo-selectivity. The reactions catalysed by the Pd and Ru complexes are largely complementary and employ different ligands to activate the metal ions, and substrates and ligands for one metal often have deleterious effects on processes catalysed by the other. This project seeks ways to harmonise the two sets of metal catalysts enabling one-pot cascade processes of great synthetic power to be developed
