Fostering inter-university collaboration in research in addition to the university-industry collaboration is also essential for the success of our research and industry. A consultative Network Management Group consisting of both university and industry representatives will be formed to advise the investigators in the running of the network.Programme of work will include:(1) A national conference to launch the network to be attended by all participating companies and universities together with invited speakers from industry and trade organisations, partner universities, DTI, EPSRC, Teaching Company Directorate and EU Commission, (2) Further annual meetings in the second and third year to follow up the developments and report the progress, (3) Regional meetings hosted by each of the participating universities to introduce the facilities and expertise available to the industrial participants and vice versa, (4) Local breakfast or early evening meetings at identified regions with talks by experts on selected topics, (5) Workshops and short courses, (6) Setting up and maintaining of a network web-site to publicise the network activities and disseminate information, (7) Publications such as regular newsletters and reports to disseminate information, (8) Publications in professional and trade journals/magazines to publicise the network and its activities.
