Summary on Grant Application Form
This project seeks to open up a new area of CO/H2 chemistry that has been previously overlooked, and the principal aim is to attempt to synthesise chemical intermediates from the co-reaction of CO/H2 with small molecules containing S and N, e.g. thiophenes and amines. Two approaches will be develop (a) continuous cofeeding of the S or N compound with CO/H2 and to investigate the reaction products at steady state, and (b) sequential feeding of CO/H2 and the N or S reactant in a TAP pulse flow reactor. Initial catalysts will be based on modified CO hydrogenation catalysts and the novel chemistry will be studied using in situ spectroscopy.
