Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this Fast Track proposal is to improve the performance of one of the most important elements of any risk management process the identification and evaluation of the risks associated with the project. Currently, this largely relies upon experience, judgement, and brainstorming. Our aim is to use cognitive mapping techniques to elicit how decision-makers perceive risks, and thereby formalise and make explicit the many tacit elements of risk decision-taking. We will combine this technqiue with a risk thermostat instrument which measures the individual decision-maker's propensity to take risks. The deliverable will be an improved computer-based tool for managing the identification and evaluation of construction project risks, which can be used by those responsible for such tasks on behalf of the client.
