Whilst there are many approaches to meeting the need for the rapid creation of new and novel chemical entities, most are limited in scope. We believe that polymer supported reagents provide a powerful means to broaden the horizons of what is possible. The proposed work will progress this field across many fronts. A key objective will be the development of new reagents to fill the gaps in the current set of supported reagents, for instance, sophisticated new fluorination reagents and innovative conditions for bringing about three-component reactions such as palladium cross-couplings. We will develop new supporting media for these reagents to meet the many requirements that must be met if supported reagents are to reach their full potential across a broad range of scales and reaction conditions. We shall investigate reactor systems that permit the maximum benefit to be derived from the use of our reagents. These will range from microfluidic devices producing small scale, high diversity libraries to large scale trickle through reactors and reagent plug cartridges allowing the facile production of moderately sized libraries of proprietary monomer sets. Combining know how gained during these studies, systems such as reactors which double up as regent supports should be obtainable.
