Summary on Grant Application Form
It is apparent that the majority of water processing research, both in industry and academia, is undertaken on the mesoscale ie at unit operation scale. Less work is undertaken to understandwhat determines process behaviour at the micro and nano-scales, and what will happen when processes are integrated at the macro and mega-scales. Experimental work will be undertaken using existing equipment rigs within Water Sciences Laboratories with realistic water and wastewater matrices. Micro and nano-scale analysis on biofilm, coagulation, mass transfer, membrane fouling, and scaling will be undertaken. This work will make use of the surface analytical equipment eg atomic force microscopy, nanoindentation, in the School of Industrial and Manufacturing Science. Macro and Mega-scale work will include benchmarking of processes, modelling of recycled water distribution and public acceptance of water refuse. This work will make use of the technology policy skills within the School of Industrial and Manufacturing Science.
