Summary on Grant Application Form
This project shall provide the equipment and infrastructure that will facilitate advanced IT support to the current and future research and development projects in UWINNFM. This will enable more efficient data management, better access to new computing and communication technology, enhance research productivity, collaboration within UwiNNFM and with industrial partners, and the ability to formulate and undertake new research and development projects. The collaborative activities of UWINNFM have already benefited from modern communication technology in many ways, such as via email and file transfer. However, despite a well-established research and management infrastructure, the Institute does not have an adequate IT infrastructure in place to support long-term collaboration and large-scale multi-disciplinary projects. The diversity of IT expertise among its various factions often leads to difficulties in remote communication. In order to facilitate efficient and cost-effective collaboration, it is necessary to establish a common IT infrastructure to a class of activities, where communication and information sharing plays a key role. Here, recent advances in Internet technology offers a desirable solution.
