Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this proposal is to exploit our very recent discovery of facile dinitrogen cleavage induced by reduction of a vanadium (III) diamidoamine complex, which yields a nitride-bridged dimer. Specific objectives are:-(i) To isolate the V (II) species which activates N2 (ii) To explore the mechanism of the N2 splitting reaction(iii) To functionalise the nitrogen in such nitride bridged dimers(iv) To explore the activation of N2 by the related titanium compoundAs a secondary objective, we will also investigate the cleavage of multiple bond in other small molecules (e.g. CO, NO, RCCR) by these systems.
