Summary on Grant Application Form |
More than 40% of primary energy in UK is used in buildings. HVAC systems account for the major part of this energy and therefore it is of vital importance to understand, control and optimise the performance of such systems. Simulation is an important element of the design and performance analysis of HVAC systems as well as a part of the overall building design. A new approach based on fuzzy rule-based (FRB) models will be considered as an alternative to first principle and polynomial models usually used in HVAC component modelling. The novel aspect of the proposed methodology lies in the specific approach for automatic rule extraction. This uses rule indeces and therefore significantly reduces the computational load and enables practical problems to be tackled. The method also allows insertion of expert rules known as priori. The extent of the applicability of these models, both alone and in combination with first principle models, will be investigated. A methodology for the automatic generation of rule-based models will be established and relative software implementation will be developed. A library of generic component models will be produced.
