Summary on Grant Application Form
This research seeks to develop a prototype for condition based maintenance decision making support in the form of software package. It is a continuation of a project on Modelling condition based maintenance of production plant , (GR/L 20801, 1996-1999). Unlike its previous research, it is aimed in this proposal to extend and develop specific models for vibration monitoring of rotating machinery and to develop an associated prototype package which can be applicable. Our experience shows that the development of a model based software package is the best way to convey academic research to the potential users and to attract industrial attention. The use of a computerised decision aid in condition based maintenance is self-evident, but there is substantial research to be done to turn a conceptual model into a package which can be adopted in real world situations. We believe this research would be of great value to British Industry through improving equipment maintenance management, and thereby contribute to the economic competitiveness of British Industry.
