Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has emerged as a promising tool for modelling hydrodynamic phenomena and for studying the multiphase fluid flow. A major advantage of the LBM is that the microscopic or mesoscopic physical interactions of the constituent fluid particles can be conveniently incorporated in the numerical scheme. In addition, the LBM has useful stability properties and can efficiently and accurately simulate the macroscopic flows of rather high Reynolds number in complicated geometry. It is also easy to programming in parallel computers. However, the existing LBM models have shortcomings such as inconsistent thermodynamics and the lack of Galilean invariance. The aims of the proposed visit are to establish a formal research-link for developing a unified lattice Boltzmann scheme without those diseases and applying the scheme in the mesoscopic modelling of soft solid amterials related to their industrial processing. In particular, we are interested in the interplay of morphology, kinetics of microstructure formation and flow, the theme of the project funded by EPSRC Soft Solid Managed Programme (GR/L51010).
