The proposal aims to develop a rapid on-line test for determining the treatability of organic contaminants in water and wastewater. This will be achieved through the chemical and biochemical oxidation of sample waters by a combination of RACOD, on-line TOC monitoring and chemical oxidation with residual control. The programme aims to produce a correlation of chemical and biochemical oxidation proclivity through a series of rapid on-line tests for various water and wastewater matrices. The research will be conducted over a three year period and involve the following stages:i) construct an experimental rig and develop a protocol for chemical oxidation of the treated sample streamii) test standard and simulate solutions, andiii) apply the treatability test to current and further research projects for the treatment and monitoring of organic contaminants.The project will also provide information to allow the collaborators to further develop test equipment for on-line use.New abstractThe proposal supported the purchase of a suite of on-line monitoring and oxidation equipment to support research activities in monitoring and treatability of organic contaminants in wastewater.The programme aims to produce a correlation of chemical and biochemical oxidation proclivity through a series of rapid on-line tests for wastewater matrices.
