Summary on Grant Application Form
A new methodology will be developed for investigating dynamic processes across monolayers at oil/water interfaces, by combining scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) with Langmuir trough techniques. The proposed instrument will facilitate novel fundamental studies of the effect of monolayers on the kinetics of molecular, ion and electron transfer at oil/water interfaces, using the electrochemical probe of the SECM to induce and monitor the transfer process of interest, with high spatial and temporal resolution, while the state of the monolayer is controlled using the Langmuir trough. For these transfer processes, factors of interest will include: the structure of the amphiphile; the density and structure of the monolayer; interfacial potential effects.
