Summary on Grant Application Form
The network will bring together chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, physicists and biologists who are studying the mechanisms of skin permeation. The individual groups are internationally renowned but their work complement each other. Their interaction would form the basis for multidisciplinary grant applications both from the UK authorities and the EU. The group would meet on a regular (6 month basis) to plan experiments and to disseminate information. The group meetings would involve the academic staff and thie research students. This would allow the students to interchange information and make informal presentations. Overseas experts would be invited to give a keynote talk and to provide advice on the progress of the research. As the work progresses it will be possible to construct predictive models of skin permeation and how it is modulated by simple solvents and formulation components. This information will be invaluable in the rational design of topical and transdermal drugs, topical and transdermal formulation design and risk assessments of dermal toxicity.
