Summary on Grant Application Form
Che proposed research is in the area of computer vision-based, human-computer interaction for the dsabled. The overall aim is to demonstrate an integrated, interactive system for on-line training and recognition of gestures and to evaluate its ability to enhance human-computer interaction for people with motor disbilities. The project will further the state of the art in gesture recognition by developing techniques for real-time tracking of the upper body (head, hands and arms), on-line training and adaptation of gesture models and their use for robust, real-time, dynamic recognition. Interactive training will allow users to develop and use their own adaptive gesture vocabulary.Potential end-users with motor impairment will be involved in the project from an early stage. They will assist with data acquisition, requirements analysis and ongoing system evaluation.
