Summary on Grant Application Form
New experiments have revealed fast protein dynamics in a number of studies and we aim to provide experimental data as input to modern theoretical models. Starting with model peptides and well characterised proteins we shall follow the dynamics of folding using time resolved FTIR spectroscopy. Folding will be triggered using both femtosecond and nanosecond ultraviolet laser pulses and nanosecond temperature jump methods. Changes in the spectrum of the amide I bands during folding will reveal structural information at the molecular level as the peptides begin to collapse and stabilise in the native geometries.
