To develop thermally stable and mechanically robust gas sensor devices that can be used in harsh environments such as oilfield and petrochemical industries. Modification of the surface properties of a sapphire crystal will be conducted using either self assembled monolayers or thin film composite materials of metal cluster loaded MCM-41.
