Summary on Grant Application Form
Over the past 2 years we have pioneered the use of liquid crystalline phases as templates for the production of metal films and stacked multilayer metal films that have well-defined mesophorus nanostructures. The range of nanostructures that are accessible reflect the structures of the liquid crytalline phases formed by surfactants in water. We now propose to use these nanostructures as a starting point to produce metal films with novel nano-architectures through controlled electrodissolution. We expect that the resulting materials will be of fundamental interest and may also have applications through controlled electrodissolution. We expect that the resulting materials will be of fundamental interest and may also have applications in electrochemical, electronic, optical and magnetic devices.
