Thi spart of the vitual camera project consists of evaluating, designing and building the mechanical part of a linear moving camera mount. The mount consists of a carriage which moves along a linear track. The track must be capable of working at any angle, including vertically. The exact specifications for the mount will be determined as a part of the project. The benefits of the linear motor drives will be compared with those of more traditional rotary machines.A study will be carried out to determine the optimum drive and suspensiojn for the mount. Linear DC machines, linear permanent magnet synchronous machines and magnetic leviation are among those which will be examined. We have a 2D and 3D finite element software, developed in house, which can be used to model the time transient performance of such machines. Working prototypes will be built and tesed.
