Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme is divided into four workpackages:1. Study of the range of technical solutions that exist now, their advantages and effects when applied to the industrial problems, and a prioritisation of the research and development issues;2. Specification and validation of means of naming, locating, synchronising and accessing diverse content objects and their associated metadata during the process of creating compound objects. A minimal middleware toolkit will be implemented to support the demonstrator applications;3. Investigation of the suitability of the Internet IP with emerging quality of service guarantees for supporting the needs of a production network in terms of the video, audio, control and management flows. The study will focus on the emerging Differentiated Services framework. Network planning and dimensioning aspects will be considered. The objective is to assess the suitability of this technology for the production network and to investigate if a managed network can result in optimal utilisation of resources while guaranteeing the SLA-based QoS. The methodology to achieve this will be analytical studies, simulations and experiments.4. A demonstrator to show the effectiveness of the solutions proposed.
