Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed research is to provide a new approach to modelling collaborative tasks taking account of the social and contextural factors associated with collaborative work, and to develop collaborative virtual working environments to support those tasks. The term Virtual Working Environment (VWE) is used to characterise information rich environments where people can undertake useful work that involves interpersonal collaboration. The research will extend the Task Knowledge Structures (TSK) principles and methods to model the social and cognitive processes involved in collaborative tasks and to develop a new UI-VWE modelling methodology to rapidly create and evolve virtual working environments. This will be incorporated within an experimental model-based VWE architecture. The principles, models and design environment will be evaluated using a set of carefully elected case studies.
