Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to design, build, commission and exploit the GREAT spectrometer using stable beam facilities at Jyvaskyla University and GSI, in conjunction with a recoil separator and gamma-ray array, provided by other members of the international collaboration. This spectrometer will be used to tag the isotopic character of gamma-rays from nuclei far from stablility in the heavier nuclear mass regions and in species close to 100sn.As a complementary programme, the recently commissioned HIPS spectrometer will be exploited using stable beams supplied by the K130 cyclotron at Jyvaskyla and a gamma-array, provided by members of an international collaboration, to study the dynamics of heavy-ion reactions and to study the properties of neutron-rich nuclei far from stablility.
