Summary on Grant Application Form
We have pioneered a new class of s-block macrocyclic complex in our laboratory. These inverse crown and related complexes have amide supported, mixed-metal, positively charged hosts with anionic guests. Using well established synthetic methodologies allied to rational structural principles, we plan to extend this class of macrocycle to different metal-ligand-anion combinations. Among the target compounds is a macrocycle with a built-in chiral amide unit. We will also develop the chemistry of the performed macrocycles and evaluate their potential as novel reagents for molecular oxide/peroxide transfer. With great current interest in designing artificial organic host molecules for anion encapsulation, we will focus on preparing macrocycles with a range of different inorganic or organic anion guests.
