Summary on Grant Application Form
This research proposal will investigate the relationship between materials pore structure, material properties (both electroceramic and polymer) on the hydrostatic performance of porous 3-3 piezcomposites in the passive, active and active-passive mode. A variety of porous microstructures will be produced which will be subsequently characterised electrically and microstructurally. Parameters which are to be investigated by modelling, materials fabrication and characterisation are volume fraction, pore size, pore morphology and tailored pore distribution. By optimising and understanding the role of structure on hydrostatic properties materials will be fabricated with high hydrostatic figures of merit and low pressure sensitivity.
