Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal helps to address the problem of lack of research into early metal dihydrogen/hydride complexes. This can be achieved by synthesis, isolation and characterisation of group V metal hydride complexes. Preliminary results from this group include the isolation of functionalised vanadocene dichlorides which provide us with the synthetic platform to access other group V metal dichlorides and ultimately hybride/dihydrogen complexes. We will study the proposed compounds by a mixture of NMR and X-ray crystallographic techniques in order to elucidate the bonding which exists between the hydrogen atoms.
