Summary on Grant Application Form
Tebbe olefination of supported esters in R1CO2-CH2-polymer will be used to provide vinyl ethers R1C (=CH2) O-CH2-polymer. This reaction will be used in a concise synthesis of polymers bearing the Ellman tetrahydropyran linker and related linkers of tuneable acid lability. Additionally, the methods will be extended to the conversion of supported esters R1CO2-CH2 polymer to higher homologous alkenyl ethers R1C (=CHR2) O-CH2-polymer using organotitanium reagents to transfer arylmethylene or alkenylidene residues. The resultant supported vinyl ethers will be further functionalised by cycloaddition reactions, amination reactions and by cascade radical transformations to provide supported multi-ring carbacyclic and heterocyclic ring systems. Methylenylation of supported 2- (trimethylsilylmethyl) benzoates and subsequent epoxidation of the resultant vinyl ether will be used in the synthesis of ortho-quinodimethanes which will be trapped in-situ by dienophiles to provide Diels Alder adducts. The supported arenes, heterocyclic arrays and other products will be released from the support under mild acidic conditions to produce divers sub-libraries of compounds for bioassay.
