Summary on Grant Application Form
The VF would consider the combination of the MINRES/GMRES method with a spectral transformation techniques used in eigenvalue computation. Preconditioning of such systems would be the major issue. Rigorous convergence bounds due to the P.I. in the case of symmetric systems will provide guidance. Additional the VF and proposer will brainstorm on the stability problem for incompressible fluid flow described by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We will consider possible methods which combine recent work of the P.I. and others on iterative solution of such problems and techniques for the eigenvalue problem describing stability/instability which have thus far employed direct solution algorithms.
