Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal concentrates on the research of room-temperature ionic liquids for catalytic Heck coupling and Diels-Alder reactions. Further to this our aim is to develop an understanding of how these liquids behave under continuous operating conditions for both catalytic and non catalytic reaction systems. The solvent systems will be developed, characterised and tested on both a bench scale and pilot plant level. Complete systems including both reaction and product separation operations will be developed and optimised. This will take place in a dedicated QUCAT (Queens catalysis) laboratory where an interactive environment between chemists, chemical engineers and mechanical engineers exists.
