Summary on Grant Application Form
There appear to be curious sysygies connecting varieties of flags of different types in a finite dimensional vector space V over F2 which reveal themselves in the homology of an elemental Abelian group. These can be worked out by hand by Hopf algebraic means for low dimensions but a better understanding is needed to advance on other fronts. They are clearly closely connected with the representations of GL (V). The initial approach will be via invariant theory where the Smiths are particular experts. This represents one aspect of a wider programme primarily associated with the name of R.M.W. Wood in the UK.
