|
A new Mid-infrared materials network will be established which will consist of a membership drawn from Universities and Industry. Following an initial start-up meeting the network will meet regularly (every 6 months) to discuss important materials and physics issues for mid-infrared (2-5um) optoelectronic devices. Key results and items if interest will also be reported in a Mid-IR network newsletter which will be circulated widely to the UK scientific community on a 6 monthly basis following network meetings.The purpose of the proposed network is to bring together expertise in the areas of semiconductor materials growth, device physics and fabrication in order to advance the state-of-the-art in mid infrared optoelectonics and provide enabling technology for gas sensors and other applications. By increasing communication between active research groups with related objectives it is anticipated that there will be more effective transfer of ideas, comparison of experimental techniques, and exchange of information and insights. Furthermore, by including representatives from industry in the network we aim to encourage better interaction between academia and industry.
