Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme comprises six linked -PhD projects at.the three collaborating_institutions. Normalisation of data obtained from the three different research centres is ensured by the use of (a) feedwater of the same quality, be it simulant or otherwise, and (b) the same avembrane materials. The Bath group will conduct bench-scale tests to assess the fouling propensity and cleanability of different membrane materials, ostensibly low-cast polymeric-materiAls,' and element configurations (tubular or flat plate) through a series of oistensibly-non-biological- trials. , The Cranfield group will perform bench/pilot scale trials, which will encompass testing the veracity of the-Bxth trials and. determine the importance of biological action is promoting or suppressing meeabrana fooling., The Imperial group will investigate anaerobic (and extractive) systems, using the same membrane -materials, ultimately evaluating the comparative costs with.aerobic systems
