Summary on Grant Application Form
ROPA - This project is a fundamental study of new arsenic (III) ligands derived from two general reactions. Firstly, hydroarsination of C=O and C=C bonds with AsH3 or H2As(CH2)nAsH2 will give unusual tertiary arsines. For example, addition of AsH3 to formaldehyde will give a water-soluble tertiary arsine and addition of H2As(CH2)nAsH2 to acetylacetone will give adamantane-like cage arsines. Secondly, addition of biphenols to AsC13 or RasC12 will give cyclic arsenites and arsonites respectively which are classes of ligand hitherto unexplored. The co-ordination chemistry and catalysis with the new arsenic (III) ligands will be investigated.
